According to the Boston Globe, an Oregon man this week was sentenced by a Boston Judge to three years in prison for selling hacking tips and tools that allowed users to pirate cable broadband services. According to the lawsuit, twenty-eight-year-old Ryan Harris (aka DerEngel) made between $400,000 and $1 million over several years via a website dedicated to broadband cable modem hacking, where he sold tools like Sigma, Blackcat, and DreamOS. Harris also wrote a book dedicated to exploring how to hack cable modems which we sort of reviewed many years back. Harris has been facing criminal charges since around 2009.
